Description
Architect Jacques Desablens worked with his daughter Julie, who is a landscape architect, and with the offices of Ney&Partners and Dconsult. Tailor-made by Interconstruct with Schreiber for the membrane, Degallaix for the metal structure and DEI for the lighting and multimedia equipment.
Located in the southern cemetery of Tournai, the multi-philosophical space is designed to host respectful farewell ceremonies. This semi-open space is covered by a white tensioned membrane. The space is oval, the stretched membrane is fixed on a ring supported by twenty posts and lowered in one place. The floor, made of a very light, smooth concrete, is also elliptical. It covers 215 m2. The project has a contemporary and refined touch and respects its environment.
It can accommodate up to 300 people and is equipped with seating, screens and cameras.
It offers a different way of saying goodbye to the deceased and his family, whatever their philosophy, religion or lack of religion.
André Chabot's photographic exhibition "A Few Tears of Love for the Silent" is currently (2025) on display at the South Cemetery.
